Makha Puja Celebration

MAGHA PUJA DAY is a special event for the Buddhist people around the world on which we tribute our gratitude to the Triple Gem, the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha on the full moon day of the third Lanna month. Four important events were occurred on this day, namely:

1. One thousand two hundred and fifty Buddhist monks were gathering without making any appointment to listen to the Dhamma talk given by the Buddha.
2. All the monks gathered there were Arahat.
3. They all were ordained by the Buddha himself.
4. The Buddha were giving instruction on Patimokkha (the rules of Vinaya)

The Ratanaram Buddhist Temple of Rockford, Illinois has arranged this Makha Puja Celebration on Sunday February 7, 2010 beginning at 10:00 AM. We, therefore, kindly invite all of you to participate in this meritorious occasion.

On welcoming the New Year 2010 and giving the opportunity to the Buddhist people to make meritorious deeds on this New Year Day, the Ratanaram Buddhist Temple of Rockford, Illinois has arranged this New Year 2010 Celebration on Saturday January 3, 2010 beginning at 10:00 AM. The Higher Ordination Ceremony, which will promote Ashin Dhammasiri (Phra-Maha Keo) from a position of Phra-Maha to higher position- Phra-Swati, will be held at the Ratanaram Buddhist Temple of Rockford, Illinois, on June 5-7, 2009. This ceremony is sponsored by numerous Buddhist people from many different states. (For Sponsor List, Please Click Here). We are kindly  appealing for more sponsorship to this special event and you are cordially invited to participate in this ceremony. Hopefully, your schedule would allow you to joining with us in this special event. The event will be held with the following schedules:

The Ratanaram Buddhist Temple is currently working on new projects of making new parking lots and driveway, which would be given a space for at least 22 vehicles (as required by the city of Rockford) to be parked conveniently while members of the temple are attending the services. This new project will be started in April 2009. The cost of this project in proposal submitted by Strenstrom- Excavation and Blacktop Group is US$ 21,742.00 (Twenty-one thousand seven hundred and forty-two dollars). The temple has already accepted the proposal and the construction of this project will be started immediately once the permit is issued. We therefore kindly appeal for your generous donation, which could exactly make this project possible. Due to the increasing of more members and for the convenience of those who attend regular services, the Ratanaram Buddhist temple is currently doing a new project to expand its worship hall (7X24) on the northeast side of current temple and two new public restrooms on the north attaching to the hall. The temple is hiring A-1 Quality Construction Company for the project. The work of new construction is completed. And now a new sewer service and city water are being installed. Dominic's Plumbing Company is being hired for the project. This project will cost us US$ 77,860.25 (US$ 36,676.00 for Plumbing Company, US$ 7,869.75 for Water Connection Fees to city of Rockford, and US$ 33,314.50 for Sewer Connection Fees to Rock River Water Reclamation District). To achieve our aim, we believe that strong and lasting support and cooperation from our friends and our devotees is essential. Therefore, we kindly appeal for your generous donations.
